Family Based Care Providers receive:

Ongoing support from a Child and Youth Care Practitioner, available weekly and/or daily, to assist in caring for children/youth placed in their homes.
Annual vacations/respite hours.
A comprehensive per diem.
Strong support from the Planet Managerial team, who bring a wealth of knowledge from their experience as frontline workers in the Child Welfare System and as foster parents themselves.

Requirements:

Must be 21 years old or older.
Must provide a suitable home for children/youth (owned homes are not necessary).
Must have a designated primary caregiver, though foster parents are permitted to work. A detailed plan for supporting children/youth during working hours is required.
Must have medical clearance indicating good physical and mental health.
Must possess Standard First Aid and Non-violent Crisis Intervention (SFCS will assist in obtaining).
Attendance and participation in all training and development courses are expected.
Must be open to constructive feedback and committed to self-awareness and personal growth.
Must provide a smoke-free environment in areas accessible to children/youth.
Exceptional organizational skills are necessary to manage dates, documents, appointments, receipts, and deadlines.
Characteristics Required for Family Based Care Providers

Flexibility, creativity, and patience.
Strong child/youth management skills.
Some level of prior experience with children/youth.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Strong problem-solving and crisis management skills.
