★Monthly Support Allocation
Providing a robust framework for growth, each child receives 50 hours of dedicated support, meticulously distributed across the weeks.

★Direct 1:1 Support
Within these hours, 6 per week are earmarked for direct, personalized support, fostering skill development and program implementation.

★Holistic Care
The remaining 6 hours per week are flexibly utilized to address varied needs, from behavioral support and supervision to empowering life skills that enrich their quality of life and pave the way for greater independence.

★Customized Programming
At the onset of their journey with Planet Foster Care, each child undergoes a comprehensive ABLLs – R assessment, serving as the compass for a bespoke program tailored to their unique needs and aspirations.

★Expert Supervision
Ensuring the efficacy of every intervention, a dedicated Senior Therapist provides oversight for a minimum of 4 hours weekly, guiding progress and refining strategies. Additionally, a BCBA meticulously monitors progress for at least 6 hours monthly, ensuring that each child’s journey is grounded in evidence-based practice and continuous improvement.

How does one become a foster parent with Planet Foster Care in Canada?
The initial step involves reaching out to us! We’ll gather basic family demographics and forward them to the Director for your region, who will then arrange an initial interview with you.
Following this meeting, if both the prospective foster parents and our representative agree on fostering being a suitable fit, a comprehensive home study will commence. This involves multiple meetings with our representative and various administrative tasks, including personality assessments, police checks, and a fire inspection.
Once the home study is finalized, prospective foster parents undergo orientation. This involves a combination of self-study and attendance at our In-Service Training Meetings, held twice monthly on weekdays.
Are foster parents compensated in Canada?
Foster parents receive a non-taxable daily amount intended to cover expenses associated with caring for children in the home, along with an additional allowance for clothing needs. While this should not be considered a replacement for a steady income, it can support current lifestyles.
How long does the foster parent certification process take?
The duration of the process varies for each family, depending on factors such as timely completion of each step and the availability of foster parents for meetings and documentation submission. On average, the process typically spans about 2-3 months.
Is it necessary to be a stay-at-home parent to foster with Planet Foster Care?
While being a stay-at-home parent isn’t obligatory, foster parents must have flexibility in their work arrangements to accommodate the needs of foster children. Medical appointments, meetings with CAS workers, and training sessions often occur during daytime hours, necessitating flexibility.
Can foster children share bedrooms with my own children?
Planet Foster Care mandates that each foster home has one designated bedroom for a foster child. However, in cases of multiple placements or unique child needs, room sharing may be considered.
What training do foster parents receive?
Foster parents undergo extensive training in caring for children from challenging backgrounds. This includes both recruitment process training and ongoing monthly training sessions, covering various topics related to child care.
How often must foster parents attend training?
Foster parents meet with supervisors twice a month on weekdays. The first meeting involves In-Service training covering various child care topics, while the second is a “cluster” meeting for discussing specific issues related to the children in their care.
How many children can we foster?
The maximum number of children placed in a home is four, regulated by the Ministry of Children, Community, and Social Services. Factors such as existing children in the home, space availability, caregiver availability, and family characteristics are considered.

Yes, we provide continuous support to foster parents throughout their fostering journey, including 24/7 on-call support, relief programs, and a network of families and professionals to guide them through any challenges.
